Habitat Unit

URBAN TALKS

June 21 2022, 7.00 pm | Universität der Künste, Hardenbergstraße 33 Raum 310

Cristina Gamboa

Lacol

The urban talk series at floating university is a joint public lecture and discussion event organized by Habitat Unit/TU Berlin with the Design Studio „Safer City, Safer Housing?“ (Dr. Anna Steigemann/Dr. Christian Haid) and the BA Thesis Seminar „Collective housing at Berlin’s city borders” (Dr. Moritz Ahlert) and UdK studio raumproduktion’s seminar „Talking about collectivities and inclusion in housing“ (Prof. Markus Bader).

The lecture series adresses different aspects of collective and alternative housing for marginalized groups, such as for refugees, the queer community or for the urban poor, asking what solidary and urban commons models, practices, strategies, approaches, and spaces can be understood as possible catalysts for a larger urban and societal transformation towards a just city.

Lacol

Lacol aims to generate community infrastructures for the sustainability of life, as a key tool for the urgent eco-social transition. The lecture will introduce this mission and vision through a series of projects and initiatives where architecture, social economy and participation play a role together.
Lacol is a non-profit cooperative of work co-founded by 14 architects in 2009, based in the neighborhood of Sants, Barcelona. Their activity is based on a horizontal system of labor, which embraces Architecture, Urbanism, Housing policies and Participatory processes, blurring the limits of the different disciplines to define a cross-sectional approach. Their collective work has been recognized and exhibited locally and internationally, including the Mies van der Rohe Award (Emergent Category, 2022), Moira Gemmill Prize (WomenAward by ArchitecturalReview, 2021), and the Venice Biennale of Architecture ‘How will we live together?’ (2021), among others.
Cristina Gamboa is a chartered architect and teacher. She studied at ETSAB, and University of Stuttgart. Cristina is co-founder of Lacol, where she has focused on developing cooperative housing projects. She currently teaches at AA (MPhil in Architecture and Urban Design - Projective Cities), and ETSAB (DPA PIII_IV Contemporary Collective Housing, Associate Professor).

This lecture is in cooperation with UDK-Tuesday lectures. Cristina Gamboa has been invited by Jean-Philippe Vassal, Markus Bader and the Urban Talks team collectively
