Curriculum Vitae

Since September 2013 Dipl.-Ing. Vesta Nele Zareh is a doctoral candidate at the Habitat unit. She is working on The export of western planning models in the context of post war 20th century geopolitics – The case study of the Tehran Comprehensive Plan by Victor Gruen and Abdol-Aziz Farmanfarmaian.

Vesta Nele Zareh studied architecture, art history and sociology at the TU Berlin and at the UDK in Berlin. In 2004 she completed her studies in architecture with an award-winning thesis. Since 2013 she has a scholarship by the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation to pursue her doctoral research.

In her doctoral research Vesta Nele Zareh focuses on the export of western planning models after 1945. Based on the case study of the Tehran Comprehensive Plan by Victor Gruen and Abdol-Aziz Farmanfarmaian she examines their export in the context of geopolitical changes, global and local strategic objectives, their underlying ideas of society, city and urbanity and the tensions between vision, heritage and adaptation in regard of local realities.
A residence as a visiting scholar at the Harvard Graduate School of Design is scheduled in 2016 as part of her research.

In 2012 she worked as a research assistant at the TU Belrin, on a project which was funded by the Climate-KIC, developing a platform for the exchange of best practice models for sustainable urban developments in Europe in cooperation with the Institute for Sustainability, the Imperial College London, and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ Potsdam). During her time as a research assistant at the TU Berlin, she was also involved in several research projects on the adaptability of urban structures and building typologies facing economic, environmental and social challenges of the early 21st century.
