Matti Hänsch joined Habitat Unit in April 2024 as a research assistant. He is part of the project Reducing Marine Litter in the Mediterranean through Waste Wise Cities in Lebanon, ReMaL (BMUV). The project aims to reduce marine litter in Lebanon by supporting the regional and the national government in the implementation of integrated solid waste management (ISWM) principles together with the Wuppertal Institute and the UN-Habitat Lebanon Office.

In his master's thesis, which he completed at the TU Berlin, he dealt with post-industrial development scenarios of the port of Hamburg towards an ecological transformation of the Elbe and its surroundings. Before joining Habitat Unit he worked in architecture and art studios.
