BOOK 2025

Edited by Leander Nowack

Territorial Control
Case Studies on European Borders

This publication brings together various approaches to the topics of border space, architecture, technology, surveillance, and violence, as discussed and developed during seminars at Technische Universität Berlin between April 2024 and July 2025.

From the introduction:
„Architecture as a discipline is also involved when power monopolies and violent spatial orders are established through space itself. Recognizing these moments as architectural production and critically examining them, is a central concern of the works gathered in this book. In this regard, the discipline of architecture plays a dual role: on the one hand, it is complicit in the creation of undemocratic spaces through its construction mechanisms; on the other, it holds the tools to analyze, map, and deconstruct those mechanisms. In this way, the discipline is deployed against itself, toward its own interrogation and further development.“
