BROWN BAG LECTURE
July 10, 2018 | 14.30 Uhr | A 624

Memory, Place, Heritage, Displacement

This brown bag presentation by Ayham Dalal and Dima Dayoub aims to introduce the work, progress, methodologies and sub-projects pursued through the art-research initiative 'Memory, Place, Heritage, Displacement'. The initiative, funded by Gerda Henkel Foundation, is concerned with tracing and assessing Syrian urban heritage in exile. It seeks to document memories related to the city and daily urban practices before the war, and how these perceptions are affected by different routes of migration, refugees' backgrounds and identities. In particular, we are interested in how they chose to re-construct their memories on cities, and how urban heritage can be unpacked and decoded. Finally, it aims to raise awareness towards the multiple dimensions included in the co-production of urban spaces and cities in Syria, and their entangled role in the conflict as well as future reconciliation.
