Curriculum Vitae
Gözde Sarlak-Krämer has been a doctoral candidate at the Habitat Unit since January 2018. She studied urban planning in İstanbul and Bauhaus University Weimar. In 2012, she obtained a Masters of Science degree in European Urbanism from the Bauhaus University Weimar, Germany.
Gözde's doctoral research aims to explore notions and practices of heritage through a focus on the relationship between people, landscape and governance in the land wall market gardens of İstanbul. One one hand, she tackles ambiguity as a concept that is enhanced by state and local level politics through planning processes concerning agricultural heritage and on the other, how under these circumstances citizens are appropriating, enacting, inhabiting spaces and processes to maintain their livelihoods.
Prior to enrolling for her doctoral studies at the TU Berlin, Gözde worked as a research assistant at the Department of Architecture İstanbul Bilgi University. She finds inspiration in questions in architecture and urban planning focusing on issues of spatial justice, politics of the everyday life, ecology, and commons alongside qualitative research methods (ethnographic and visual). Alongside her own practice, she has collaborated with different architecture collectives (raumlabor berlin, raumtaktik, ON/OFF) Since 2017, Gözde is a member of NYLON Berlin / Einstein Research Group based at the Georg-Simmel Center for Metropolitan Studies.
