Christian Haid has been a senior researcher at the Habitat Unit since October 2017. Christian is an architect and urban sociologist and his research focuses on critical urban studies, urban informality, and postcolonial theories. He teaches in the master’s courses in Architecture and Urban Design as well as in the international Urban Management master’s course.

Christian holds a master in Architecture from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and a master in Urban Studies from University College London (UCL). In July 2017 he completed his doctoral dissertation “City Life in Limbo – Globalizing Urban Informality and (In)Stabilites in Informal Practice” in urban sociology at Humboldt University Berlin.

Before joining the Habitat Unit team, Christian worked as a lecturer at the international Urban Management master’s course, the Institute of Urban Sociology at Humboldt University Berlin and the Department for Urban Design and Planning at Leibniz University Hanover. He furthermore was a researcher in the EU FP7 Project “DIVERCITIES - Governing Urban Diversity” at Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research Leipzig. After his degree in Architecture he worked as an independent architect as well as project architect and urban planner for 3:0 Landschaftsarchitektur Vienna.
