House a Flat a Hut a Hat
Affordable housing takes on many forms around the world. It changes according to general conditions, political ideology, economic performance, spatial development, social behaviour, and a host of other factors.
The seminar provides an overview by charting thematic territories, tracing academic discussions, and examining selected projects and approaches both in the global North and South.
It specifically studies the dichotomy of government action and self-provisioning/local participation and includes cases and questions that Habitat Unit currently investigates through the Coop City Network, an on-going global research initiative responding to the the Transformations to Sustainability Programme funded by the International Social Science Council.
