Urban Mobility Living Labs
Supporting on-the Ground Innovation towards Sustainable Urban Transportation

This studio focused on transformative living labs to improve urban mobility solutions, connectivity and fostering local innovation to contribute to sustainable urban development. Participants had the opportunity to collaborate directly with an international team of experts in close collaboration with the Urban Change Makers Group, the SOLUTIONSplus project and representatives from the partner cities including Kathmandu and Hamburg.

The students worked with the local government and public transport operators to co-develop multi-modal transport hubs and integrate e-mobility solutions that are fit-for-purpose and make a positive contribution to social cohesion and sustainable development. The studio tackled the spatial aspects of the e-mobility transitions through the design of multimodal stations,  charging solutions and battery swapping facilities. The participants reflected on socio-economic development in the target cities in their analysis, which guided the design proposals for Hamburg and Kathmandu that were presented to city representatives.
