Juxta - Posing Narratives

The forthcoming exhibition ‘Simulizi Mijini – Urban Narratives’ at Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik (ZK/U) in Berlin is an open invitation to explore the topic of ‘informal’ urban heritage. It presents the results of collaborations between artists, students and academics based in Tanzania and Germany. Art installations and oral narratives collected during fieldwork in Dar es Salaam and Berlin reveal the complexity behind the immaterial culture of our cities and their identities. What rhythms move Dar’s Tandale district, how Turkish is Berlin’s beloved Döner? How do women in Tanzania communicate without words, and what histories are hidden in  Berlin’s African Quarter? ‘Simulizi Mijini – Urban Narratives’ tackles these questions and presents intriguing stories gathered from the local people that make up our global metropolises.
