The Berlin University of Technology, Faculty VI, is actively
involved in the training of foreign experts since 1990.
Its educational portfolio includes both short and long-term
post-graduate training courses in specific subjects as well
as a master program providing state-of-the-art knowledge
in key sectors of urban management, environmental management
and engineering.
The courses draw on the extensive experience and research
of faculty and international experts that are members of
the international network of the TU. They also include experts
from different public and private institutions mainly in
Berlin, e.g. from the Senate in Berlin and from the GTZ
(Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit).
The language of the courses depends on the participants.
So far, short courses have been carried out in English,
German, Spanish, and Portuguese or with translation, especially
into Chinese. The Urban Management Masters Course
is carried out in English.

_The
program focuses on interdisciplinary management approaches
that cross the boundaries of conventional professional knowledge.
It aims to provide insights into workable, practice-oriented
solutions for city manage- ment. The teaching draws on experience
gained by local governments, NGOs, the private sector, as
well as on concepts promoted by international and bilateral
development organizations.
_The issues addressed are related
to the most pressing problems of urban develop- ment worldwide,
including environmental degradation, uncontrolled urban growth,
insecure land tenure for the urban poor, inadequate decision
making and planning systems, poor housing and working conditions,
inade- quate infrastructure, water and air pollution, waste
and deteriorating historic areas.
